Soul Detox: Whom Shall I Fear?

REFLECT: The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?: Psalm 27:1

APPLY: What if…..you trust God, instead of the fearsome possibilities taunting you? What if – like the desperate Dad – you transfer your confidence from the traction of your problems to the sovereignty of the Savior?

What if?……Because, come to think of it, what is it? What? What??

Is that problem really your irresistible authority? Does your past truly have the last word? Must your worst fears always come to pass?

The truth is you have swallowed the lies of the deceiver, hook, line and sinker (John 8:44). Karma, bad luck, juju – call it what you may – the evil one is not the boss of your life. You are not the hapless victim of a ‘Higher Power’ nor the plaything of some heartless god. You are a child of the living God, the One and Only Almighty God. The Adoni, Lord God of Hosts, the Omnipotent One. You are His deliberate creation, made in His image, fearfully and wonderfully made. You are a bearer of His breath that is accounted for, and may not be heedlessly snuffed out.

You are – yes, YOU are – a child of the one true King, the sole Ruler and Judge of everything existing. You are known by name (Isaiah 43:1), and the number of your days have been pre-determined and recorded in His book (Psalm 139:16). You are so precious that the hairs on your head are numbered (Luke 12:7), and an accounting demanded from any who would do you harm (Genesis 9:5). Far from a nameless, dispensable nonentity, you are a known, loved soul, a cherished child of the God Who Sees You (Genesis 16: 7, 8, 13).

This being so, whom should you fear? Of whom should you be afraid?

Nothing, and no-one.

Be strong and take heart….you who hope in the LORD. (Psalm 31:24).

PRAY: Lord, help me believe and take to heart who I am to You, and by this may Your courage grow within me. Deliver me from whatever is holding me back from acknowledging my fears and putting my full trust in You. Let the brave confessions of my lips be more than mere bravado. Teach me to live like the cherished child and overcomer I am in Christ Jesus. For the glory of Your Name, Amen.
